Announcing Our Hispanic Virtual SIG

Logo extension for VGA's Hispanic SIG Interest Group

Do you have Hispanic ancestors? Are you a librarian or society volunteer who works with patrons of Hispanic descent?

The Virtual Genealogical Association is excited to announce that we are launching a SIG (Special Interest Group) focusing on Hispanic genealogy to usher in the new year.

CLARIFICATION ( 12/30/18): For our purposes, the term Hispanic refers to anyone from or who descends from a Spanish-Speaking country. This includes Spain, and is not limited to just Latin America. It does, however, exclude Portugal and its former colonies.

Our goal is that this SIG will help you advance your Hispanic research from the comfort and convenience of your home or wherever you have an internet connection.

Do you already belong to an in-person Hispanic-focused genealogical society or SIG? Our virtual SIG is not meant  to replace your existing society or societies. We genealogists often belong to multiple societies. VGA provides yet another opportunity to learn about Hispanic genealogy research and connect with other family historians.

What to Expect from this SIG

We invite you to join us at our monthly online meetings, and for ongoing discussions in our Facebook Group.

Monthly Meetings

Our meetings are informal and discussion-driven, providing members an opportunity to talk about problems and solutions, ask questions, and share their tips. These are not formal lectures, however, some months might include a brief presentation by a member or invited guest.

  • When: The 3rd Tuesday of each month (6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Pacific)
  • Where: Online via Go To Meeting (will be recorded)

These meetings are conducted in English, and will be recorded and archived to view at your convenience.

Our inaugural meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15th at 6:00 p.m. Pacific and will focus on search and documentation strategies for Hispanic names.
